DIY Hot Water Solar Thermal Tank

DIY Hot Water Solar Thermal Tank

Insulating the tank with polyiso foam board. The walls are insulated to an R-28. Showing cutting and installing the foam. Then preparing the liner to the tank. The liner is EPDM rubber and it makes the tank water tight.

This tank is the storage for the thermal energy (heat) from the solar DHW system. This will heat our hot water for the house.

Anyone can get hot water from solar when the sun is shining, but only with a large thermal tank can you tap into that heat for stretches of cloudy weather. This is an integral part of becoming net-zero or passive house.
